Welcome

Welcome to Year 2!

We are very much looking forward to working with you this year. The following information will help us to work together to support your child as fully as possible. Please be sure to look at the curriculum overview that your child will be bringing home soon. This will give you some idea of the work we are covering this half-term.

Entry to school on a morning

Please see ‘A Guide for Parents’ regarding the beginning and end of school day arrangements. It is important that children arrive at school on time and we would ask that all children in Year 2 are ready to come into school between 8.50am and 9.00am each day.

Please bear with us at the end of the day, as we see children out one at a time. Please also let us know if your child is being collected by a different adult.

Water Bottles

Please send your child to school each day with a named water bottle. This should contain plain water only. Children are encouraged to use their water bottles throughout the day.

Home Reading

The children will be given a set of reading books to take home on a Monday. We would like these books to be returned on the Friday of that week. This allows the books to be quarantined over the weekend. A new set of books will be given out the following Monday. If your child reads with you, please make a short comment in their Reading Record Book. This will enable them to receive a bookworm sticker on their chart. Please read with your child at home as often as possible, daily if you are able.

Homework

Reading - In addition to Home Reading, your child will be sent home work to support the Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling we are working on in school.

Spelling – Your child will continue to bring home Word Mountain spellings. When these have been completed they will receive spellings linked to work covered in school that week.

Maths - In order to have rapid recall of number facts, your child will continue to work on KIRFs targets. Please practise these with your child as regularly as possible at home in order to develop fluency in mathematics. There will be a weekly KIRFs test for all children.

We would ask that you please keep your child’s Word Mountain booklet and KIRFs card in their book bag. This will enable us to keep you updated on where your child is currently working.

Homework Project

Each half-term children will have the opportunity to complete a homework project linked to the current curriculum. We have had some amazing projects in the past and hope that as many children as possible will submit a piece of work. There will be prizes! Projects can take the form of a model, a piece of writing, research on the computer or artwork. This half-term we are inviting children to work on a project linked to our topic of Saltaire and Sir Titus Salt. We will hopefully be visiting Saltaire later this half-term. Please send any completed projects into school from the week beginning 2 November.

PE Kit

Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school. Indoor kit should be navy blue or black shorts, white T-shirt and black pumps. Outdoor kit should be black or navy blue tracksuit and trainers. Children should have a pump bag to keep all PE kit safely inside. Please make sure that all kit is clearly named. PE sessions in Year 2 are as follows:

2S – Indoor Monday morning / Outdoor Friday afternoon

2F – Indoor Wednesday afternoon / Outdoor Friday afternoon

Please note at this time that we would like your child to come to school wearing their outdoor PE kit on the days that they have PE. This is to limit the number of items coming to and from school.

Finally, if there is anything you are unsure of, please come and ask. After school is usually most convenient as mornings can tend to be very busy.

Our Mission Statement

In 2S we work hard and we are kind to each other.
Starting and finishing school
In year two we will be starting school at 8.50am and leaving school at 3.20pm to allow space in the play ground for social distancing.
Keeping your child safe in Year Two.
To ensure that your child is as safe as possible in school we are following strict hygiene procedures. We are ensuring that all children wash and sanitize their hands at regular intervals during the day. We have a sanitizer machine outside our classroom and so it is easy for them to sanitize independently when asked. We are also encouraging children to sneeze and cough into their arms and use tissues when needed.
