Hello everybody. This is Mrs Scott writing to you to tell you that I’m going to be your new teacher in September. I’m very excited about this and hope you are too! Miss Hart is going to be our teaching assistant and she can’t wait to see you all as well.

I know that most of you haven’t been to school for a while and I haven’t had the chance to tell you all about being in Year 2, so I’m going to tell you a few things now. Our class is called 2S and is on the top corridor. You will be able to hang your coat up near our classroom in the morning and you will have your own drawer to put your things in. Lots of things will be the same as in Year 1. We will be playing out in the same playground but will be playing with the new Year 1 children. I’d like you to help them to settle in by being kind and friendly like you always are when you’re all playing together. You’ll be able to have a fruit snack as well at playtime as usual. Lunchtimes will be exactly the same and you will have a new dinner lady to help you while you have your lunch. Our school dinners will be the same too and there will be pizza on a Thursday!

We will be doing lots of exciting learning in class about all sorts of things. We’ll be doing maths and reading and writing and lots of learning about the world. There’ll be lots of painting and drawing and singing too! We have lots of lovely books in 2S and a reading garden in the classroom where you can go to read a book if you want to. Our class author is Roald Dahl so you may want to find out a little bit about him before September. You could even read one of his books or get someone to read one to you. We read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory together in Year 2, which is my favourite Roald Dahl book. PE in Year 2 is fantastic and you will love it! We have a special coach that comes in to teach you all about Gymnastics and Games and Athletics. In Year 2 we have a trip to Saltaire to learn all about Titus Salt, who was a very important man who lived not very far away from you. In the Spring term we go to a chocolate factory in York to learn all about how chocolate is made. We hope you like chocolate as there’s a lot of it to eat when we get there! In the Summer term we go to visit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to learn all about animals and their habitats. This is a very exciting trip because you’ll be able to see Polar Bears and Lions! There is also a visit to a Church and a Mosque to help us to understand about different religions. We always have a lovely time when we go on our trips.

I think that’s about all for now. We hope that you’re all really excited to be coming back to school after such a long time away. You could do a little bit of practise before then if you wanted to by trying to read as often as you can and having a go at some writing, making sure your writing is neat and all the letters are correctly formed. Try to do a little bit of maths as well if you want to.

We can’t wait to see you back in school in September, and in the meantime if you want to message us to tell us all about you and what you’ve been doing then that would be lovely. See you soon,

Mrs Scott and Miss Hart.
