English - put it back together and feature spot.
Children in Year 4 were given a jumbled up blog and had to read each section and out them back together. Then they needed to find different grammatical features which then prompted a whole class discussion.
DT packaging
Session 1 - We evaluated packaging to discuss what we would attract us to buy the product. We also then looked into different materials that packaging is made from.
Session 2 - Today we explored different packages. Children carefully took these apart where the discovered they were made from nets.
Session 3 - The children explored making different packages from nets children had to carefully cut and stick the nets together. This took some time but allowed the children to pick a net they would like to use for their package.
Session 4 - Children created 2 designs for their package. They carefully selected a ‘target group’ who the firework was going to be designed for. They then made sure that their firework would appeal to their target audience.
Session 5 - We created our final designs.
PE - javelin & shot put.
In year 4 we have started to get ready for sports day.
Science - sound
How does sound travel?
We used tuning forks and a strip of paper to see how sound travels. Children discovered that sound creates vibrations which is particles bouncing into each other that creases a sound wave. The bigger the wave the louder the sound.
Science - sound
After discussing how sound travels we look closer at how our ears help us hear sounds. We ordered the different parts of the ears and wrote a descriptive paragraph about how we hear.
Science - Children in Year 4 investigated how far sound could travel. We discussed what we needed to keep the same, what changed and what we were going to measure. After conducting the experiment, we transferred our data onto a bar chart which helped us compare our results.
Maths - time.
we started our new unit on time by refreshing our memory and making different times. Also, we use our knowledge from year 3 to match facts about seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years.
English - Shakespeare workshops - Macbeth
What an afternoon we had! Battles, reenactment of famous scenes featuring our very own Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. This was a great hook for the children, keep an eye out for our follow up writing tasks.
THE DAY THE ROMAS CAME TO SCHOOL!
What a day we had.
The morning started with children learning about Mosaics then they designed their own and started to make them.
During our Roman workshops, we looked at Roman artefacts, we then Marched to battle using Roman commands, then built a Legion camp and finished with the Roman game Trigon.
All the children looked amazing in their costumes. It was a great day.
Maths - angles.
3 different types of angles were introduced to the children acute, obtuse and right angles. They then applied this new learning finding the different angles. They estimated what type of angle it was and then checked with an angle finder to see if they were correct.
