Roll up, Roll up, Welcome to the Circus!!!!!!
Welcome back for our final term in Reception! Our first topic is 'The Big Top'. We are going to be learning about the circus. We will be reading the story, The Singing Mermaid by Julia Donaldson. We will have a circus workshop in school to teach the children some tricky circus skills. We have started turning our classroom into our very own Blakehill Circus!
Take a look at our Circus provision. We have lots of opportunities for circus role play, dressing up and learning circus skills alongside lots of other new learning opportunities.
We had a Circus Workshop in school. Becky came to teach us all about the circus. She taught us lots of different circus tricks and we all had an opportunity to practise and then perform our skills in front of our friends. We had a chance to try on circus clothes too. It was a very exciting opportunity. (PD, PSED, CLL, KUW)
In maths we have been exploring numbers beyond 10. We played a bean bag throwing game. We threw beanbags and tried to achieve the highest score. We kept our scores using a tally chart. (maths)
LO- to recognise and count numbers beyond 10
The weather has been wonderful this week. The children have loved exploring the outdoor and water provision. Thank you to Mrs Lister and Miss Hart for making us a wonderful fish and chip shop role play. (CLL, PSED, N, PD)
Hose pipe shower! What is better on a hot day? (PSED, PD KUW)
The children have enjoyed finding natural resources in the woodland. Some children made repeating patterns out in the sunshine using their resources (Maths, CLL, KUW). Other children created their own natural pictures (CLL, EAD, KUW).
Our outdoor provision continues to support children in developing all areas of their learning. We have a wonderful fish and chip cafe (KUW, CLL, PSED, EAD). We have sensory exploration (PD, KUW, CLL) and sand matching activities to support the children in their understanding of upper and lower case graphemes.
Once upon a Time!
This half term we will be enjoying traditional tales and our provision will be linked to the stories we are enjoying in class each day.
We have got 12 chick eggs in our incubator in the classroom. We are going to wait 21 days to see if any chicks hatch out. Each day we will look at our model eggs to see what is going on inside. We will learn about life cycles and hopefully when some chicks hatch we will learn to care for them. (KUW, PSED, CLL)
We took part in a Shakespeare workshop in Reception. We learned about the magic flower! (A Midsummer Night's Dream).
The children enjoyed acting and singing along with the story. (CLL, EAD)
We are enjoying learning about Traditional Tales this term in Reception. We have focused on the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children have made story maps and retold the story verbally using props in provision (CLL). This week we will be building houses from bricks, sticks and straw (EAD, PSED, KUW) and writing captions to match parts of the story (CLL).
Happy Birthday Blakehill!
Reception enjoyed having the chance to join in the celebrations (KUW, CLL, PSED)
Reception stay and play.
Reception took part in a Forest Schools workshop. We had an amazing time, putting up our own tents, creating clay hedgehogs, making nature hats and toasting marshmallows on a real camp fire. (PSED, KUW, CLL, PD)
What an amazing year we have had in Reception.
Reception celebrated their attendance this year by having our own ice-cream factory. Yum Yum
