Autumn Term

We have already been very busy so far this half term! Among other things, the children have been getting back into writing, begun preparing for the Year 4 Multiplication Check and learned alot about the digestive system. They should be bringing reading books home, have another to read in class and have been enjoying listening to 'Codename Bananas'.
There is so much more to come and I look forward to sharing what we get up to on this page!
SCIENCE
Today in science (16.9.24) we modelled the human digestive system! We made banana and chocolate spread sandwiches which we then cut up and squashed (simulating the job of the incisors and molars). We added soapy water to act as saliva.
After that we spooned the mixture into a bag, added lemon juice and squeezed. This simulated the action of stomach acid.
Then we squeezed the mixture into some tights which acted as the intestines removing some liquid.
Finally we simulated the waste exiting the body by cutting a hole in the tight and squeezing out the brown mixture!
In science we left eggshells in various drinks for a week then looked at them again, studying how they had changed.
In computing we discussed what kind of emails you may respond to and which ones you should block.
We visited St Cuthbert’s church to learn about the bible in its many forms.
We had a fantastic, mature discussion about bullying and designed anti-bullying posters.
A visitor came in to work with us on worries and anxiety.
Those of us who didn’t go to Nell Bank built shelters of our own!
Here are our completed shelters.
We tested our shelters to see if they were wind and rainproof!
We did a mini beast hunt, a tally of what we found then some observational drawings.
Today in maths we used place value counters to perform 4 digit subtract 4 digit calculations with one exchange.
In science we practiced making classification keys for the class.
Today was meet the athlete day. We had a great time having a workout in the hall!
In English we deconstructed letters to identify their features to aid own own writing.
In PE we did orienteering following a map.
