Welcome back to school and Happy New Year!
This half term our topic will be Dinosaurs. We will be learning all about dinosaurs and how they lived. We will learn about different types of dinosaur, what dinosaurs ate, where they lived and how we know this information. We will have a visitor and take part in our own fossil dig. The children will even have the chance to meet a dinosaur and ask his trainer questions.
We will be reading the book, Tyrannosaurus Drip by Julia Donaldson. share the story below at home and find out about what we have been learning in school.

The icy weather doesn't stop Reception having fun! Brrrrr
This week we will continue our learning about dinosaurs. We will be learning about what dinosaurs eat. We will focus on a different type of dinosaur every day and send home some fact sheets for the children to share with their grown ups at home.

Kindness Week in Reception
This week we will be practising kindness in Reception. We will be thinking about the qualities of a kind person and practise the skills needed to be kind. We will start with making people feel welcome. We will practise ways of welcoming people into our classroom such as high fives, hugs, fist bumps, waves and verbal greetings.
To continue our work around kindness today we made sprinkle biscuits to share with Year One children tomorrow.

Dinosaur Workshop
We took part in a Dinosaur workshop. The children uncovered fossils and identified what they found. We then met Aurora the baby triceratops.

We delivered the biscuits we made to 1M as an act of kindness. The children enjoyed sharing with the Year 1 children. (PSED, KUW, CLL). We remembered our manners and used please and thank you when we shared.
Music
Every Wednesday Mr Graham comes to sing with us in Reception. We love learning and performing new songs. (PSED)
We went to see Cinderella at the panto today! Oh yes we did! The children loved the experience and sing along opportunities.
In maths we read the book Superworm and made our own worms out of playdough. We made worms of different lengths and used our mathematical vocabulary to describe the worms.
We drew around each other on big paper and then used cubes to measure our length. (PD, Maths, CLL)
We enjoyed writing and drawing together on big paper. (phonics, PSED, PD, CLL, EAD)
We made colourful dinosaur swamps in the rain. We worked together to contain and guide the water into streams and rivers. We used the powder paint to mix different colours.

To complete our learning about kindness and love in Reception, we asked parents and carers to create hearts to display in our window. the hearts contained reasons why each child in Reception was special. we have loved reading these and the children have been so proud to bring them in and share their grown-ups thoughts about them. (PSED, CLL)
Children have enjoyed learning to make different connections with materials such as split pins to create moving dinosaurs. (PD, EAD)
In maths we are learning about 3D shapes. We have used a magic bag to help us to identify the shapes. We made 3D shapes from playdough and we had 3D tower building competitions.

in Maths we have been comparing numbers to 10. We voted using bricks and counted up the votes.
Mrs Spivey and Miss Thompson have been very busy working with groups of children. Miss Thompson has been having lots of fun with the magic bag. Children have been discovering the sensory surprises inside. Mrs Spivey has been playing turn taking games. Lots of fun! We are supporting our children in sharing and turn taking. (PSED, CLL, PD)

This week in Reception in preparation for World book day we have invited parents/carers into school to read the end of day story to the class! The children have loved this wonderful experience!

In maths we have been trying to find 1 using three parts. We have done this practically using numicon tilles. (Maths)
Eid- This week we have attended an assembly led by Mrs Javed, all about Eid. Blakehill is celebrating Eid this week and as part of that in Reception we have been helping to make decorations (PSED, EAD, CLL, UTW)
In maths we sailed Blakehill pirate ship around the world collecting and dropping off passengers. We learnt about finding more and less.
It's time to BREAK THE RULES!!!!! The children broke the rules and chose their own hot spots this morning! We loved showing off our hair, outfits, nails and make up! Snack time was extra fun too! We have broken from our timetable and enjoyed making Easter cakes and taking part in an Easter scavenger hunt!
