Welcome back to our final term in Reception! In Summer 1 we will be learning about Living and Growing. We will start our topic by going on our first school trip to Hesketh Farm.
We are reading the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
We have our own caterpillars in the classroom and we will be watching them grow and observing changes over time. (CLL, UTW)
We have our own fruit and vegetable shop in Reception. Miss Butler is our shop keeper. We are learning about different fruit and vegetables and describing them. We are counting out items to buy and taking turns. We are using coins to pay the shop keeper. (CLL, EAD, UTW, PSED)
We are making insects out of playdough! (CLL, PD, EAD, UTW)
Today twelve chick eggs arrived in school. We have put the eggs in our incubator and numbered and named each egg. We will now wait 21 days to see if any of our eggs hatch and become real chicks. (CLL, EAD, UTW)
Our First School Trip to Hesketh Farm
The children went on a paddock walk to meet the animals and feed the goats. They collected eggs and handled the chicks. They took a tractor ride through the fields to learn about the cows and sheep and took time to handle and brush the guinea pigs. They even had time to make milk for the lambs and feed them using bottles. (CLL, PD, UTW)
We are continuing to observe our caterpillars. They are eating and growing in their pots. We are hoping to see them start to change more in the next week.
Take a look at some of our new provision ...
