Spring Term

Our topic this half term is ...
We will be learning all about dinosaurs and how they lived. We will learn about different types of dinosaur, what dinosaurs are, where they lived and how we know this information. We will have a visitor and take part in our own fossil dig. The children will even have the chance to meet and dinosaur and his trainer questions.
We will be reading the book Tyrannosaurus Drip' by Julia Donaldson. You can share the story at home through the link below and find out what we have been learning in school.

Maths
The children have been learning how to use 10s frames to show 1 more or 1 less than 6, 7 and 8. The children worked in pairs to work out their answers.
Dinosaur Provision
Bradford Music and Arts Concert
RS loved learning about different instruments and which instrument family they belong to. They enjoyed joining in with songs being part of an audience.
Maths 
The children have been exploring mass by using weighing scales. The children predicted which items were heavier and which were lighter before using the scales to see if they were right. The children also had a go at trying to get the scales to balance using various objects form around the classroom. 
Dinosaur Workshop
The children became palaeontologist and used brushes to carefully find different fossils and dinosaur bones. The children used the fact files to try and identify what they had found. At the end of the workshop the children got to meet a baby triceratops called Arora. 
Kindness Week
To celebrate kindness week the children have been sharing lots of stories about being kind. We practiced different ways to welcome people including smiling at someone, waving and shaking hands. They had a go at practicing this with a partner. 
The children then spent an afternoon decorating biscuits which they then shared with the children in Year 1. The children in Year 1 recited a poem all about what kindness is on our visit.
Pantomime
What an exiting morning learning the story of Cinderella through panto.  
Maths
The children have been learning about comparing length of different things. In maths, we read the book Superworm and then made worms out of playdough. The children were challenged to make 3 different length worms, order them by length and talk about them using the vocabulary they had learnt.

Maths
The children have been learning about the numbers 9 and 10 through different activities in maths. We started by looking at what 9 and 10 looks like and used our fingers to help us count. We then looked at pictures and sorted them by what we could count.
 
We have also compared numbers to 10 by using bricks to vote for our favourite stories. We counted up the votes and talked about which book had more and which had less.
Roll up, roll up and welcome to the Reception Circus!
We had our very own circus workshop in school and the children had a go at performing various circus tricks. They practiced using ribbon twirlers, juggling with scarves, spinning plates, hula hooping, balanced on a tightrope and even had a go at balancing peacock feathers. There was even a surprise visit from a circus clown!#

Maths
We have been practicing our subitising skills by circling what we can see and having a go at labelling it using the correct number formation. 
Maths
Today the children were learning about 1 more than a given number from 0 to 10. The children made their own bingo games and crossed out 1 more than the given number if they had it on their bingo board. 
Reading Café 
Some of the children came into school early and shared stories with their grown ups at ouur World Book Day reading café.

The children enjoyed sharing stories with our year 6 pupils.

Maths
We have been learning our number bonds to 10 and using numicon to show our understanding.
 
 
Maths
In maths the children have been learning what 1 more means. The children created their own bingo boards and had to cross out 1 more than the number that was called.
Magic Bag
Mrs Spivey and Miss Thompson have been very busy working with groups of children. Miss Thompson has been having lots of fun with the magic bag. Children have been discovering the sensory surprises inside. Mrs Spivey has been playing turn taking games. Lots of fun! We are supporting our children in sharing and turn taking.

Maths
The children have been learning to verbally count beyond 20. They played a game of ping pong where they took it in turns to say a number until they got to 100. Some children demonstrated this in front of the class and even counted down from 20.
Eid
In preparation for our Community Iftar Even the children learnt about Eid and decorated hands with Mendi.

Mathematics
The children have been exploring adding. We build a pirate ship and children climbed aboard. The children then closed their eyes and some more children climbed on. We then worked together to find out how many more children had climbed on board.
Easter 
The children have listened to the Easter story and been learning about what Christians believe. We looked at different ways that people celebrate easter. The children made easter baskets and waited patiently to see if the Easter Bunny would visit. On the last day of term the children came to school and their easter baskets were full of some easter treats. How exciting!
