The Importance of Parental Engagement
Parental engagement plays a vital role in a child's school life, helping to improve academic achievement, boost confidence, encourage positive behaviour, and strengthen the connection between home and school. When parents take an active interest in their child's education, children are more likely to succeed and develop a positive attitude towards learning.
There are many ways to be involved as a parent/carer at Blakehill:
Class Dojo
We use the online engagement tool Class Dojo to share instant messages of individual pupil achievement , to share information and to keep our families informed of what is happening at school and what their child is learning.
Come and Learn With Me
Parents and carers are regularly invited into school to learn alongside their child. This can be to support ART/ DT projects, be part of an afternoon of practical activities, during Commando Joe character building exercises or as part of a final presentation of pupil work.
Class Assemblies
Families are invited along to our weekly class assembly. This is a great opportunity to find out more about your child's learning.
Listen carefully - Mrs Keighley loves to quiz you at the end!
Visits and Visitors
Every term, children in all classes, have the opportunity to take part in a visit related to their current learning or have a visitor in school to further enhance their learning experience.
We love it when parents/ carers and the wider family join us!
PTFA
We have a small but dedicated group of parents and friends of Blakehill who strive to raise funds for all the lovely 'sparkly bits' throughout the school year such as: pantomimes, ice-creams and inflatables on fun day, Santa's Christmas Grotto and special leaver's presents for our year six.
They do this through school disco events, Christmas and Summer Fairs and various stalls and competitions throughout the year. It’s such a great way for parents/carers to be involved and make a real difference!
Everyone welcome.
Christmas is ALWAYS just around the corner!
Whether it's a KS2 Christingle Service at St Cuthbert's Church, a craft and carol afternoon, a KS1 production or a reception class nativity, there's always something happening. It's great to see so many of our families involved.
Wake Up, Shake Up!
Why not jump start your school day with a little physical exercise to get the heart pumping, the blood flowing and the muscles working. Parents and their children welcome to join us in the school hall on Mondays - Fridays from 8:30am
Parent Workshops
We host a number of conferences and workshops throughout the school year, providing opportunities to learn together and network with each other.
