LO: To count from a larger group
Today in maths we looked at counting from a larger group. We used our carpet spots as counters, we have 30 spots and had to circle a certain amount. The children used string to circle the correct amount of spots.
The children then took this learning to their table where they used ten counters and a dice. They rolled a dice to see how many counters they had to circle out of ten.

LO: To use greater than, less than and equal to.
The children investigated greater than, less than and equal to. They used a rhyme to help remember which way the symbols face. The alligator faces the biggest number because it wants to eat more. The children created their own equations by choosing two numbers and drawing the correct symbol.

LO: To investigate parts and wholes.
The children practically investigated parts and wholes through several activities. They threw beanbags into hoops to make two parts, inside and outside the hoop. They then counted all the beanbags to find the whole number. The counted out counters, shook them in a tray and counted how many on each side.
27.09.23
LO: To use part whole models.
The children practically made part whole models using counters and cubes. They choose a number card for the whole and had to make two parts that make the whole. They then wrote the part whole model on their whiteboards.

The children had a fun filled day learning about what Bradford looked like in the past. They took part in a washday workshop learning about how people washed their clothes and what they used in the past without electricity. The children enjoyed looking in the old houses and discussing what was the same and different to our houses now. We looked in the manor house which belonged to the Mill manager, looking at the difference between the poorer back to back houses and wealthy manors. We then looked at the Jowett cars and discussed what we already know about them and their importance to Bradford.

Abbey House Museum
Year One were lucky enough to get hands on with historical artifacts again at Abbey House Museum. When we arrived on the Victorian Streets we went on an artifact treasure hunt to learn about the different ways of life. After exploring we were lucky enough to play with and look at some toys from the past. In the afternoon we headed over the road to make some rock, tree and leaf rubbings in the park.
