Science - in science we started our new unit on Electricity. We looked at different electrical devices. We then tried to name electrical items that that start with all the letter in the alphabet. These are ready for our next lesson where we look to see if they are plugged into the mains, batter powered or both.
History - in history we continued our topic on WWII. We learnt about what happened in Dunkirk, we then ordered the key events so we could explain what happened in dunkrik.
PSHE - we considered the different types of relationships we can have with other people.
Science continued - after thinking of different eceltrical devices we then discussed how we could sort these devices out. With some prompts and questions the children decided to sort their appliancies out into a venn diagram. Our headings were battery operated and mains.
RE - we looked at some similarities and differences between faiths. The children found this lesson interesting and we are going to continue to discuss this in our oracy lesson.
Science - In Science we learnt 2 new key words which were conductor and insulator. The children were then set a challenge to see which objects in the classroom would let electricity run through them and which objects wouldn't. We then had a whole class discussion which started by children sharing objects they found were good conductors. As more and more item were added onto the conductor list the children then spotted a pattern which was all the conductors were metal.
ICT - in our second lesson we edited our own recordings. The children trimmed their recordings to make sure there was no pause at the start or at the end. Then they added a second layer to their recordings and decided if they would like both to play at the same time or at different times.
Science - we added a swtich into our circuits to see how they allowed electricity to flow through but also stop the flow of electricity. The children were then given a post it note, 2 split pins and a paper clip to make their own switch. Lots of children managed to make a switch, the children really enjoyed this.
Music - Children learnt a song and played the recorder
Reading - we have been looking at different features of leaflets. The children were asked to retrieve emotive language from a range of sources. These were then used In English when the children created their own leaflets on recycling.
Maths week - In maths this week we focused on statistics. The children were set a task of collecting data to see how many cars were in the staff car park. The children decided they would like to see how many cars were in the car park every hour. We recorded the amount of cars in a tally chart and the children transferred our data into a pictogram and a line graph.
Maths - we have been reading all about recycling in our reading lessons so the children decided they would like to complete a survey to see how many children in Year 4 recycled. The children conducted the survey and turned their data into a bar graph which allowed them to compare how often 4SJ recycled compared to 4RR. Drawing bar charts was challenging but we persevered and our bar charts were amazing.
Dogs Trust - We had a visit from dogs trust. We learnt about how the dogs were looked after, we had chance to ask questions and then tried to solve the mystery. We really enjoyed this because it was fun.
Oracy - Talking like an expert. This wee, the children were given some key topic words which they had to try and include when sharing what they have learnt in science but there were also some words/phrases which took points away from them The children were given times to plan what they were going to say and then shared to the class.
PE - We continued our Orienteering unit by focusing on how we orientate a map. This children were given a map of the school grounds and they had to orientate their map and point to where we were, this was repeated at different locations. Some children made the like of using the physical features on the map and physical features they could see to work out where they were stood. The children then created their own map using sports equipment making sure features were draw to scale.
PE - We started a new unit which is dance. The children did a travelling and balance warm up which let into the children creating their own routines. We then started to learn a new dance. Next week we are dancing to one of the songs from The Greatest Showman.
Art - In art we have been using water colours. We have looked at the 3 primary colours, warm and cool colours, complimentary colours and we finally finished with applying everything we have learnt in our big project.
Oracy - This week, our discussion point was 'Does having a phone help keep me safe'. The children found this talk point really interesting, we had some high level discussions that lead to another discussion about how to be safe on the internet.
Science - The children were given a set of cars to sort, the children created their own categories. We introduced our new top which was 'Is water always wet?' We then looked at the 3 different states and the children then sorted different card into the correct category.
Oracy - This week, our discussion point was 'Does having a phone help keep me safe'. The children found this talk point really interesting, we had some high level discussions that lead to another discussion about how to be safe on the internet.
Science - We looked at solids, liquids and gasses. The children looked at the particles in the different states of matter and created a short performance to show how Ice turned into water and then into gas as it is slowly gets heated up.
RE - This half term our focus in RE is How do the 5 pillars guide Muslims in their life?
We started this week by creating a spider diagram including anything we already knew about Islam. We then went on to look at key artifacts and had a discussion around why they were important.
Science - We looked at how we could change the state of a ice cube that had a fortune statement in. The children started off by pridicting which would be the most efficient method to help the ice change state. Children out their ice on the radiator, some wrapped theirs in paper towel and some ran theirs under warm water.
PSHCE - we investigated people that helped us, how helped us and how we can help them to do their job. E.g. Having a balanced would help keep bodies healthy which could mean we needed to see the doctor less often.
Oracy - E-safety - Our talking point this week was 'Having a phone helps me keep safe when I'm on my own'. The children enjoyed this lesson and were engaged. Our discussion developed around what age do we think it is appropriate to have a mobile phone.
Penalty shoot out - Billy Bantam came to our school and we had to take penalties at him. We raised a lot of money to school to the Bradford city charity. Poor Billy didn't know if he needed to save the flying shoe or the penalty!

Part 2: Cookie Policy
Last Edited: 22nd April 2021
This Cookie Policy explains how eSchools use cookies and similar technologies in our Services. It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control their use.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by online service providers in order to (for example) make their websites or services work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.
Cookies set by the website owner or service provider (in this case, eSchools) are called “first party cookies”. Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called “third party cookies”. Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website or service you are using (such as advertising, interactive content and analytics). The third parties that set these third party cookies can recognise your computer both when it visits the website or service in question and also when it visits certain other websites or services.
Why do we use cookies and other tracking technologies?
We use first party and third party cookies for several reasons. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our Services to operate, and we refer to these as “essential” cookies. Other cookies enable us and the third parties we work with to track and target the interests of visitors to our Services, and we refer to these as “advertising” or “analytical” cookies. For example, the embedding of YouTube and Vimeo videos, as added by individual schools, will require “advertising” cookies to be enabled in order to successfully play them. Schools that, for example, opt to track visitor data using Google Analytics will require “analytical” cookies to be enabled in order to do so. These third party cookies are used to tailor content and information that we may send or display to you and otherwise personalise your experience while interacting with our Services and to otherwise improve the functionality of the Services we provide. We also enable schools to employ cookies and similar tracking technologies in connection with their use of our Services in order to allow them to track visitors to and interactions with their school website.
How eSchools Uses Cookies
eSchools websites may request cookies to be set on your device. We use cookies to let us know when you visit our websites, how you interact with us and to enrich your user experience. The cookies differ depending on the information. You can adapt your cookie preferences, although please note that blocking some types of cookies may impact your experience on our websites and the services we are able to offer. We will not, without your express consent, supply your personal information to any third party for the purpose of their or any other third party's direct marketing.
User Embedded Content
Our Services allows schools to embed code which may potentially contain cookies. Please note embedded content, if displayed on one of our websites, has been added by the school and not by eSchools. The embedded content added by the school may require additional cookies or tracking technologies to be enabled in order to function.
