Welcome to Blakehill
Wednesday 4th September -
What a wonderful first welcome session we had today. We welcomed our first twenty Reception starters. All of the children were confident and excited to begin their Blakehill adventure. The children worked with their parents for the first part of the morning. They made peg labels, magic wands and paper people for our display. After that the grown ups all left and the children explored and made friends independently.

Friday 6th September
Today we had out final welcome session with the last 20 Reception starters. The Reception team are looking forward to seeing you all on Monday morning.
This week has been very busy. The children have settled quickly and we have enjoyed getting to know them all. Today we made listening hats and went on a walk to explore our school. We stopped and listened for sounds in our environment. Being able to listen and identify sounds is an essential skill for children to master before they begin formal phonics teaching. Please try to practise listening games with your children at home as this will really help them in school.
We went on a trip to our school library. The children listened to a story and then chose a book each to take home. Each week the children in reception will visit the library to change their book.
This is our first full week in school. Look at some of the lovely activities the children have enjoyed.
In reception we use the Zones of Regulation to help us to understand our feelings.
We have four Zones. Each Zone is linked to a group of feelings. In order to learn we expect that children will be in the Green Zone. We support children to create a toolkit of resources to help to keep them in the Green Zone and ready to access learning.
Languages Day
This week the children in Reception took part in a super exciting Spanish Workshop. Maggie the puppet visited our classroom and taught the children how to use their manners in Spanish. The children also learned how to greet others and how to count from 1-5. We used songs and rhymes to help them to learn. it was a wonderful experience. We loved it so much that we have asked if we can have some more sessions later in the year. We can't wait. We will take try to take some videos in future for you to enjoy.
