Transition Day

Today our first starters came into school for the first time. They were very grown up and enjoyed exploring or indoor and outdoor classrooms. Everyone stayed for a yummy lunch in the hall before they went home. Take a look at our first photos!

Transition Day

Today our second group of starters came into school for the first time. They spent time indoors and outdoors. There was lots of exploring outdoors in the sunshine and the home corner was very popular.

Wednesday 6th September 2023

Transition Day

Today our third group of starters came into school for the first time. They spent time especially outdoors. We had a very special visit from our music teacher who taught the children to use their body to make sounds.

Today our fourth group of starters came into school for the first time. They were very creative and spent a lot of time in our workshop.

Transition Day

Today our fifth and final group of new starters joined us for the morning. We had another fun and exciting morning exploring our classroom indoors and outside.

Our Listening Walk

Today we went on a listening walk. We read the book, The Listening Walk. Then we went on a walk around our school grounds and stopped and listened for sounds around us. The children were fab and heard so many exciting sounds.

Today we had our first PE lesson in the hall.

We went to visit our school library. Every Friday the children in Reception will visit the school library. They will be able to select a book to bring home to share. Each week we will support the children in changing their book!

We practised our listening skills by playing a listening game on our screen. We listened for the zoon animal sounds and matched them.

Our second intake went on their listening walk today. We heard the fish tank, footsteps, a fire crackling, music and the birds in the trees.

Maths

In our first maths lesson we have started to learn about the numbers 1 and 2. We practised subertising and were introduced to the number blocks. The number blocks support our learning! We have been making repeating patterns too using the cubes. Patterns are really important in maths.

Maths

Today we practised representing 1, 2 and 3 on our white boards. We played a subertising game together on the carpet.

Phonics

In our phonics lessons we have been practising our listening skills. We played a game of Silly Soup today. When we play Silly soup we sing a rhyme together and make a silly soup. Today we made our soup out of initial sounds. We focused on the 's' and the 'a' sounds.

In Reception we have been learning about identifying emotions. We have been using the zones of regulation.

Reception love to spend time learning outside! We love to explore our woodland! We build dens, dig and cook in our mud kitchen. How lucky are we?

Phonics- Phase 2

We have started learning phase 2 phonics and today we began by learning 's'. We learned the action for 's' and had a go at forming the grapheme in sand with a stick.

Today we had our first stay and play session linked to the launch of our '50 things to do before you're Five' challenge. The children made potions with their parents and made their own bubble wands.

Happy Hedgehog Day!
We had a wonderful start to our half term when the hedgehog rescue came into school to talk to the children about hedgehogs. They brought some real hoglets to visit us! We learned a lot about hedgehogs and how to care for them.

We celebrated hedgehog day with our hedgehog hair and we made salt dough hedgehogs!
