Summer Term

DT - Packaging
Today we looked at various packaging. We looked at the design and discussed who they would attract or who the target audience was. The children then looked closer to see what else they could see brand, ingredients, warnings, cooking instructions, pictures and a barcode.
The children then discussed how these were made, they children weren't sure as to how many pieces of card each package was made from. We the took the packages apart and discovered that they were all made from 1 piece of card/cardboard but they were folded and had flap/tabs to hold them together. We then had a go at putting them back together.
PE - Gymnastics
In PE we recapped different balances and how many points of our body we can balance one. We discussed and evaluated what a good balances looked like. We then moved onto partner balances, the children really enjoyed this lesson as some of the partner balances were tricky.
DT
After taking different packages apart last lesson we discovered that most packaging was created from a net. Today we had a go at turning different nets into packages.
Science - sound
Today in science we started our new unit of sound. We started of looking at different ways we can make sound for example hitting, rubbings, pulling and shaking. We then went around school to see what sounds we could hear.
After that we looked at how we hear sound. The children used tuning forks to help, they discovered when hit a tuning fork and put a piece of paper in the middle it starts to vibrate. We then looked at how to vibrations ended up being heard as a sound.
Can we change the sound a buzzer makes?
The children investigated how to change the noise of a buzzer in a simple circuit. Children tried putting it in their shoes, in empty boxes, wrapped up in jumpers and many more.
We finished the day off by looking at low and high pitch noises.
We also looked at pitch. The children came to the conclusion that pitch was how high or low a sound is, we then investigated how we could change the pitch using an elastic band and bowl.
How far can sound travel?
The children conducted a scientific experiment to see how far sound can travel. In groups they discussed what they needed to keep the same and what would change, we then discussed these as a class. The children created a simple circuit with a buzzer they they had to see how far away they could go before they could no longer hear the buzzer.
DT
Here are some of our firework packages.
PE
Today the children learnt how to play cricket correctly makin sure we understood the rules.
Year 4 really enjoyed our Shakespeare workshop.
Art
Year 4 were lucky enough to have a mosaic art workshop. We started off looking at different mosaics. After that we designed our picture and created 2 designs, we then evaluated our designs. Our last step is to create our final piece.
Maths - lines of symmetry.
Today we have looked at lines of symmetry, the children used mirrors and 2-d shapes to find different lines of symmetry. We then ended the lesson to see how many lines of symmetry we could find on different shapes.
Year 4 really enjoyed their time on the inflatables.
History - Romans

Recently we have started out new History unit on the Romans. We have learnt about the buildings that they built and how they built them (architecture). We looked at Roman archways and how they were designed. The children were then set a challenge to see if they could create an archway made of paper blocks.
