Design Technology
We have created a range of different mechanisms to help create a moving storybook.
We have designed and will make our own WW2 storybooks to give information to year 3 about what they will be learning about next year.
Art
We have been identifying primary colours and how they are used to create secondary colours.
We painted our primary colours on to a wheel and then mixed them to create our secondary colours.
It was interesting to see all the different shades of secondary colours that were created.
Reading
We have been inferring character's feelings based on images from the text.
ICT
We created our own scratch game using different commands and controls. We used coding to make our character jump over an object. It was fun choosing our character and background.
History
We have been using primary and secondary sources to find out more about life during WW2.
We looked at newspaper articles dated 1942, textbooks from 1968, photographs, read diaries and looked at advertisements from the war era.
School Linking
As part of the School Linking Programme, we virtually met with 4M from Westbourne Primary school to share our similarities and differences. We played ‘would you rather’ and ‘stand up, sit down’ for them to learn more about us and for us to learn more about them.
Design Technology
We have created our own WW2 storybooks to give information to year 3 about what they will be learning about next year.
To engage the reader we created different mechanisms on each page. Here are some of the children explaining a box fold, mouth fold and paper spring.
We also created a slider, rotator and lift up flap.
Spanish
In Spanish we have been orally explaining where we live.
English
We have been reading a new text called One Plastic Bag. Our new text is based on pollution and we looked at information leaflets to tell us more about pollution and what we can do to help. This has helped us write our own information leaflets.
Reading
To help improve our ever-growing vocabulary, we played a game of dominoes to match words and their meanings.
We completed arithmetic questions before heading to assembly to learn about number day and the NSPCC.
We read a story called the Lion's Share which was about fractions, division, multiplication and addition.
Working our way around the classroom we made a pit stop to answer different style questions about the characters dilemmas in the book.
We used reasoning and problem solving skills to work through them.
We ended our day by playing 'Who wants to be a mathionaire' and competing against each other on TT Rockstars.
