Abbey House Museum- Tuesday 18th September 2022
Dates for your diary
 
Morning Reading Cafe- Morning Reading Cafe will begin in Year One from Thursday 29th of September. It will take place every Thursday morning between 8.30 am and 8.45 am. See you there! 
 
We will be offering an informal meeting for parents to provide some phonics support on Monday 10th October at 2.45pm- 3.15pm. Any resources will be sent out to parents who cannot attend. 
 
On Wednesday the 12th of October we will be taking the children for a walk around our local area to spot clues about our local history.

Autumn 2
It is great to see so many of you at our Thursday morning reading cafe. this is a time for you to enjoy reading together in school. 
We went on a local walk. We looked to for clues about the Jowett Car factory. 
Today the children in Year One enjoyed a school trip to Abbey House Museum. We learned all about old and new toys. It was interesting to investigate the materials used to make the toys. After lunch we had a lovely walk and tour of the Abbey. We were lucky to have such a beautiful sunny day!
Sponsored Obstacle Course
We loved taking part in the obstacle course. 
We enjoy inviting parents into school every Thursday morning at 8.30 to read in our reading cafe. 
At Blakehill we support Children in Need every year. The children in 1D enjoyed coming to school in non uniform and some children helped to raise money by buying a bun at break time.
We had a wonderful trip to the Industrial Museum in Bradford to support our History and Art curriculum. 
The elves are out and about in 1D preparing for Christmas!

Our Learning in Year One
Our first story in Year One is The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr. This week we have read the story and looked at the characters.

In maths we are re-capping our learning about place value.

Music
In music we follow Charanga. The children loved having a go at playing instruments.
Science
LO- to know our senses
In science we have been learning about our senses and we played 'Smelly Socks' to learn about our sense of smell.

We did a taste test today in school and tasted lots of different tastes. We chose our favourites and thought of words to describe what we could taste. 
We have enjoyed painting portraits today in 1D!
We loved making skeletons to decorate our classroom!

Today we went on an Autumn walk and spotted signs of Autumn.

LO- to draw using different lines
We learned about the story of Guy Fawkes. We loved creating firework pictures to display in the hall during lunchtime to celebrate Bonfire Night. 
In 1D we know how important it is to be kind and take care of each other. Today is the start of anti-bullying week. We are thinking about kindness and friendships in our oracy time.

Today we looked at materials and predicted if they might float or sink in water. We then tested our predictions.

LO- to write instructions using verbs
 
Paddington loves marmalade sandwiches. We had a go at creating class instructions using verbs to make a marmalade sandwich. Then we had a go at making our own sandwiches.

Children in Year One created their own pop up Santa toys. We used different fabrics.

In science we look at how the seasons change. We went on a winter walk to spot signs of winter.
