Autumn Term

PE - Striking and Fielding
LO: To know how to improve my accuracy when throwing.
3S have continued to practice their over arm throwing skills in today's PE, focusing on accuracy. 
Mathematics - Place Value
LO: To know how to apply my knowledge of tens and ones to solve a problem.
In our Mathematics lessons today, we worked together to solve an open-ended nRICH activity exploring the different numbers we could make using tens and ones (we also got to draw on the tables which was fun!)
Science - Rocks and Soils
LO: To understand the hardness of rocks.
We tested the hardness of rocks today by scratching their surfaces with other rocks. It was really interesting.
Science - Rocks and Soils
LO: To know how fossils are formed.
We have been learning about how fossils are formed. We had a lot of fun making our own dinosaur skeleton fossils with spaghetti!
PSHE - Conflicts 
LO: To understand how to solve conflicts.
 We have been learning how to sort out problems, about the ability to understand how the other person feels, and to try to compromise. We acted out some scenarios and tried to find solutions.
Oracy/RE
LO: To know how to take turns.
In the story of Noah's Ark, Noah did what God asked him to do. Today we linked our oracy lesson to RE. We were discussing whether you should always do whatever someone asks you to do. We had a very interesting discussion. You can see us here taking turns to speak.
Science - Rocks and Soils
LO- to understand that soil is made from bits of rock and organic matter
Today we had fun collecting soil samples. 
Computing - Digital Devices 
LO: To understand how digital devices help us.
We used a paint program to create a digital picture, and then we painted a picture using paint, water and brushes. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each one.
Music - Singing
VOCES8 came to work with Y3 today. We will be singing at Bradford Cathedral with them soon.
English - Biographies
LO: To know the structure of a biography.
Today, 3S learnt all about the structure of a biography by putting the pieces of one back together, they then explored the different features. In the same lesson, we also played one of our favourite spelling games!
Oracy / Computing - E-Safety
LO: To know how to create a strong password and check my privacy settings.
Today, 3S learnt all about passwords and how to make them strong. They also learnt how to make sure their privacy settings reveal only the information they want to show. 
Obstacle Course
3S completed the school's annual obstacle course today!
Maths - Addition and Subtraction 
LO: To know how to add numbers across 100
Today, we used pictorial models to help us add numbers where we exchange 10 tens for 1 hundred. 
Bradford Industrial Museum trip 
Year 3 visited the Bradford Industrial Museum today where we learnt what life was like during the industrial revolution. 
Music - Singing
Bradford Cathedral staff were back today to help Year 3 prepare for the BIG sing. 
Maths - Addition and Subtraction 
LO: To know how to subtract a number (exchanging 100) 
We continued to improve our exchanging skills today, exchanging 100 for 10 tens. 
English - The Coming of the Iron Man 
LO: To know the features of a poem 
In today's lesson, we have learnt about the different features of a poem and then tried to identify these in three different examples. We started the lesson by playing one of our spelling games!
PE - Netball
LO: To know how to control a ball
In this lesson, we learnt how to control the ball, building on the skills we learnt last week.
Music
We went to Bradford Cathedral today. We sang the songs we had been learning with Voces8..  
Mathematics - Subtraction 
LO: To know how to subtract a 2 digit number from a 3 digit number 
In one of our final lessons exploring subtraction, the children have used base 10 so they can 'see' what is happening when they are exchanging. 
PE - Invasion Games
LO: To know how to pass the ball 
It was a foggy day today which made passing the ball quite tricky! We have learnt chest passes and how to receive the ball. 
Design Technology
We designed our own bookmarks and then did a bit of sewing. It was quite tricky but we kept going. We really enjoyed using the binca and the threads.  
We evaluated it at the end and decided that we would like to improve our sewing skills even further and do a lot more sewing in school.
