Today the children were working on their sentence openers. They worked together to build up a word bank of their own.

The children worked super hard today to understand the concept of multiplying using cubes!

The children were hands on with their learning and took photos of various objects in school. They were given a paper 'frame' to carefully think about the best positioning for their photos before taking it. They also had to think about lighting, focus and whether it needed to be portrait or landscape!

Science- Materials (Big outcome)
Children took their time to design and make their waterproof hat for a teddy using their knowledge of materials from their science learning! They had lots of fun doing this!

Year 2 LOVED their workshop with Sir William Petty learning all about the History of the Great Fire.

Children enjoyed working together to learn all about division. Children grouped cubes and counters to find the answer.
DT- Structures (Cross Curricular link to History)
2G have begun their DT project linking to The Great Fire of London! The children used their history knowledge about what houses were made from and what they looked like in this time period. The children then worked in pairs to discuss their ideas, plan and draw their house! They're all very excited to make them!
Optional Homework Task linking to 'The Great Fire of London'
Before half term, the children in Year 2 blew their teachers away with their optional homework task linking to The Great Fire of London! They designed and created their own bread with their grown ups at home. All the children worked so hard on this project and they enjoyed tasting the bread too! Some children even went the extra mile and made an oven and bakery aswell!
English - Reading Detectives!
The children enjoyed reading the text and retrieving information by using the skill of 'trapping' the answers in the text.
PSHE Workshop
2G were lucky enough to work along Jayne today to learn all about the body and how to stay healthy. They looked at important organs in the body and how to look after themselves. They also discussed how to be a good friend to everyone and how to spot bullying.
DT - Structures
The children loved working in pairs to design,make and evaluate their Great Fire of London houses!
Sharing our love for reading - World Book Day!
Science - Harlow Carr Gardens
Despite a wet and rainy day, 2G had a lovely day visiting Harlow Carr Gardens yesterday as part of their Science learning. They became creative gardeners thinking of their own names for plants. They also measured stems and leaves using a ruler. The children loved using a tape measure to measure the tree trunk. After measuring the tree trunk,they had to use their knowledge of maths to half it to find out how old it was. They were great at partitioning the number to make it easier for them to work out! A cross curricular day (Maths,Science Art and great team work and communication - A great day for all!
PSHE - Flat Stan First Aid Training
The children were very engaged in our Flat Stan First Aid session this week with Simon. They listened carefully to advice about how to administer first aid and they learnt how to ask for help in an emergency.
Key Stage 1 World Book Day Bedtime Story!
Bedtime Story! Thank you to everyone that came, it was wonderful to share our love for reading with the children and parents of Blakehill. The children were particularly excited to receive a new book which they could take home.
