The Day the Circus Came to Blakehill
To create awe and wonder for the writing week, we organised a big top to appear on our field (kindly funding by our PTFA). Children were involved in a show and took part in workshops.
Each year group received a special circus story to work with and create some wonderful writing.
Poetry Day
To celebrate National Poetry Day the whole school created and performed poems around the theme of freedom. Upper Key Stage Two even created some nonsense poems.
India Week
For world book day, our whole school theme was India.
Each year group had access to a high quality reading text and had to produce some work related to it. In addition we learnt how to play the Dohl, created a sequence of dance moves for some Bollywood music and learnt bout Indian cities. Looking closely at religion, culture and food.
Also Year 3 produced two class assemblies to showcase everything they had learnt. To see Year 3 assembly just go on to our school blog.
Earth Week
To celebrate Earth Week the whole school produced work about the environment. We looked at well known environmentalists, how we can look after our planet, the effect of plastic on the environment and recycling.
Falconry Day
A falconry company visited our school for the day bringing their wonderful birds of prey. They told us about medieval falconry, showed us their birds of prey and told us a story about the lanner falcon. Afterwards, we were treated to a display on the school field. It was amazing watching the birds flying freely and swooping over our heads. We produced some lovely written work after our experience.
Black History Month
We have researched some black history heroes and the contributions they made to society, art and culture. We looked at influential individuals who had experienced discrimination in their lives and how they overcame this adversity.
When Darren the magician came to school
The children had a visit from a real magician who showed that the secret of some of the magic tricks. Children had a chance to practice their skill and show it to other within school. Each year group learnt 3 different magic tricks and the children were given the opportunity to create different genres of writing.
Class Read
At Blakehill, we teach a reading into writing approach based on a high quality, rich text. We then publish work on our corridoor displays. Have a look at this wonderful work

Shakespeare Workshops
During the Summer term, the whole school took part in some exciting workshops with an actor called Jackson who retold different Shakespearean plays. The children loved these sessions and brought their learning alive! Take a look at the children's fantastic writing and displays around school!
