In Maths we are looking at fractions. To introduce the topic, we looked at what fractions are and how we can represent them. we did this by drawing diagrams of shapes or items, such as cake and pizza.
Next, we looked at equivalent fractions. We use counters to see if we could find equivalent fractions to the ones on the board.
Our new topic in science is light. We have looked at what light sources are and the different types.
After this, we read a statement; Light waves travel out from their source in straight lines called rays. Rays do not curve around corners, so when they hit an opaque object (one that does not allow light to pass through it), they are blocked from reaching the other side of that object.
In order for us to prove this theory, we conducted an experiment. We got two pieces of card and put holes in them. We stuck them upright on our desks and use a torch to shine a light through both holes. We noticed that the light goes through both holes if they are lines up correctly. We then put a book in between the two pieces of card to obstruct the light. We notice that it completely blocks the light and it does not bend around it. this proves that light only travels in a straight line.
In PE we have been working on our ball skills. We took part in different activities with Mr Simmons, which would improve our throwing and catching skills. We then put these into game situations.
In music, the children worked with Mrs Bedell playing chime bars to mark the beat of the music for the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The children marked the beat using the A and D blocks. The children discussed the rhythm, tempo and structure of the music.
Computing
In computing we are going to be creating some stop motion videos based around the ancient Greek Olympics.
We have looked at the background of the Olympics and the different events that took part.
We created some posters with all the information on them.
We had the pleasure of attending a live google meeting with two members from Bradford Cathedral. They talked to us about how to join their choir, different singing techniques and we also got to listen to one of them play the organ. We were very impressed! After that, we did some singing of our own! Check out the videos to hear our singing and what we learnt.
In our Monday PE sessions we are looking at striking and fielding. Our focus is cricket. Luckily, the sun was shining and we were able to practise our skills on the field. We practised our defensive skills, looking at the long barrier block. We made sure we got low to the ground, made our leg as long as possible, and cupped our hands ready to receive the ball.
In Science we continued to look at the topic, light. We focused on shadows today and how we create them. In order to create a shadow you must use an opaque object to block the light. We discovered last week that light travels in a straight line so we knew it would be easy to create the shadows by obstructing the lights path. We tried our theory out inside, by using a pencil, some blue tack and a torch. After that, we decided to go outside and create our own shadows in the sunshine. We used chalk to draw around them when we found our pose!
To continue our topic of light, we looked at how light enters our eyes. We already know that light travels in a straight line. Therefore, in order for us to see an object, light hits the object and our eye in a straight line.
We conducted an experiment looking at what happens when light hits rough surfaces in comparison to smooth. We took some bouncy balls outside and bounced them against a smooth surface. When we did this, it came back to us in the same direction. This is what happens to light when we look at a smooth object.
We then threw it against a rough, uneven surface. The ball went in different directions every time. This is what happens when you look at uneven surfaces.
To prove this, we used some tin foil and looked at our reflection. When the tin foil was smooth we could see our reflection quite clearly. This is because it is smooth so light is bouncing off the tin foil straight into our eyes.
We then scrunched the tin foil up and had another look. We could barely see our reflections as they were distorted.
In English we have been looking at a book called Krindlekrax. We stopped the story at a cliff-hanger and got into groups to make predictions about what we thought might happen next. It was really useful for us to work in groups as we got to share our ideas and talk about how we could add more detail to them. We are going to be writing our ideas up and continuing the story.
After we had done our research, we had a practise at how to make stop motion videos. We used some clay to make some models and watched a few examples. We had to remember to keep our camera's still and only move the model. Have a look at some examples!
English
In English we wrote some fantastic diary entries based on our new book, Anglo-Saxon boy. Once we had written them, we peer marked each others work. We were looking to see if we had done any spelling mistakes, punctuation mistakes and made sure we included everything in the success criteria. We even gave each other some targets to make our writing even better!
In computing we are working on Stop Start animation. We are going to make a short video using clay and the stop start animation programme. Today, we made a background for video. We used the Greek Olympics as a theme for our backgrounds.
Today we had our Bradford City Penalty Shoot Out again Billy Bantam. The proceeds from the shoot-out are split 50/50 between the school and the Community Foundation (a non-profit making charity which puts all the money back into the community for future projects). As an incentive for the children to try raise money, any child raising over £20 gets a Bradford City FC football and a medal, if they raise over £10 they receive a Bradford City pump bag and a medal, every child raising over £3 receives a Bradford City Medal and the child who raises the most gets a signed Bradford City football. If a child raises over £30 they will receive all 3 prizes, football, pump bag and medal. All balls, pump bags and medals will be paid for by Bradford City FC Community Foundation.
We all had lots of fun and we found some good strikers.
In our Maths lessons we have been using talk partners. This is where we sit with our peers, who are at a different ability to us, and work corporately to figure out the answers. This really benefits those who struggle with Maths, to work with someone one to one. This also has benefits for those who do not struggle, as they are practicing explaining their answers and getting the mastery side of Maths.
In computing we are continuing to look at our skills using stop motion. We practised modelling people with the clay, and tried to use stop motion to make them walk/run. This was extremely difficult as the clap breaks easily and it is very fiddly! We also need to make sure we do not move the camera when we get the shots of the clay model walking, we must only move the model.
We have been reading Krindlekrax in guided reading. We have really enjoyed this book, and it has been very interesting! We had to decide who we thought was responsible for the death of one of the characters in the book. There was evidence against a number of different characters, so we used the text to decide who had the most evidence and why we thought it was their fault.
In RE we looked at why people celebrate EID and what it is. We read some information about what EID is and what things people do to celebrate EID.
After we answered some questions about EID, we designed our own Mehndi's. Mehndi is a form of body art and temporary skin decoration usually drawn on hands or legs, in which decorative designs are created on a person's body, using a paste, created from the powdered dry leaves of the henna plant (Lawsonia inermis).

Part 2: Cookie Policy
Last Edited: 22nd April 2021
This Cookie Policy explains how eSchools use cookies and similar technologies in our Services. It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control their use.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by online service providers in order to (for example) make their websites or services work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.
Cookies set by the website owner or service provider (in this case, eSchools) are called “first party cookies”. Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called “third party cookies”. Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website or service you are using (such as advertising, interactive content and analytics). The third parties that set these third party cookies can recognise your computer both when it visits the website or service in question and also when it visits certain other websites or services.
Why do we use cookies and other tracking technologies?
We use first party and third party cookies for several reasons. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our Services to operate, and we refer to these as “essential” cookies. Other cookies enable us and the third parties we work with to track and target the interests of visitors to our Services, and we refer to these as “advertising” or “analytical” cookies. For example, the embedding of YouTube and Vimeo videos, as added by individual schools, will require “advertising” cookies to be enabled in order to successfully play them. Schools that, for example, opt to track visitor data using Google Analytics will require “analytical” cookies to be enabled in order to do so. These third party cookies are used to tailor content and information that we may send or display to you and otherwise personalise your experience while interacting with our Services and to otherwise improve the functionality of the Services we provide. We also enable schools to employ cookies and similar tracking technologies in connection with their use of our Services in order to allow them to track visitors to and interactions with their school website.
How eSchools Uses Cookies
eSchools websites may request cookies to be set on your device. We use cookies to let us know when you visit our websites, how you interact with us and to enrich your user experience. The cookies differ depending on the information. You can adapt your cookie preferences, although please note that blocking some types of cookies may impact your experience on our websites and the services we are able to offer. We will not, without your express consent, supply your personal information to any third party for the purpose of their or any other third party's direct marketing.
User Embedded Content
Our Services allows schools to embed code which may potentially contain cookies. Please note embedded content, if displayed on one of our websites, has been added by the school and not by eSchools. The embedded content added by the school may require additional cookies or tracking technologies to be enabled in order to function.
