Pupil Voice

What do pupils at Blakehill think about RE?

During our Subject Council meetings the children showcase their RE work and discuss what we can do to make RE even better at Blakehill.

The Subject Council consists of me Mrs Watts and a councillor from each class to ensure all voices are heard from across the school.

As subject leader I love to hear about what the children would like to see in their lessons and what they have found interesting. It also gives me opportunity to develop the curriculum to ensure they are engaged with what they are learning about. The children are always at the heart of everything we do at Blakehill.

What can you tell me about your RE lessons?

  • "We learn about different religions"
  • "There are different places people pray, like a church or a mosque"
  • "In our class we have learnt about different stories, I liked the Good Samaritan"
  • "It was interesting to find out how different people celebrate births"

What do you find difficult or would like to change about your RE lessons?

  • "I would like to do more, like more often not just once a week"
  • "Sometimes I forget what we learned last week because it wasn't yesterday we did the learning"
  • "The concepts we talk about can be hard to understand but my teacher will make it fun and help me"

We have discussed together about chunking some of our RE learning to continue the flow, discussion and enjoyment for the children.
Beginning of the lesson assessment - RE in 3 to be implemented to help children retrieve information quickly.
Continue to challenge the children's thinking and allow for open discussion.
