Hello 4P (soon to be 5G)!
I hope you are all well and staying safe during these strange times! There is work on the class learning pages that you can be completing but really I just want you to all be safe and well for when we return.
I wanted to write to you personally to introduce myself before we all come back to school in September. My name is Mrs. Gould and I am your new Year 5 teacher, alongside Mrs. Grattan who will be your new teaching assistant. I taught in Year 6 this year so I am sure a lot of you will have seen me round. I am looking forward to meeting you all in Year 5 and getting you ready for Year 6. We will all be moving into Mrs. Russell's current classroom but we will soon make it feel like ours. Mrs. Lancaster and Mrs. Horrocks will be teaching in the other Year 5 class. I know this isn’t how we usually get to do transition but when we start in September we will get to know each other, the classroom and the new routines.
As I'm sure you already know, Year 5 is a very exciting year to be in. Not only are there lots of exciting things to learn about but also, this is when you move to upper key stage 2 and become some of the oldest children in school. As become some the oldest children in the school, there is an expectation that you 'set the standard' for others to follow - from what I know about you in Year 4, I'm sure you will be able to rise to the occasion! Mrs Phillips has spoken very highly of you all and tells me that you are a great class so I’m feeling very lucky to have you next year.
Over the course of the year, we will cover some really exciting topics and explore some fantastic books as part of our English curriculum. As well as work, we have the exciting trip to Ingleborough to look forward to. During this trip we get to compare Idle and Clapham as locations as well as taking part in a range of really exciting activities. As part of our local history study we also visit the mining museum in Wakefield.Other topics include, Ancient Greece, Mining, Anglo-Saxons and a range of science topics.
I know some of you might feel a little nervous about coming back to school after such a long time. You may have seen or heard things on the news or online that has upset you or made you worry. I want to reassure you that everyone in the Year 5 team - teachers, teaching assistants, learning mentors - will do everything we can to help and support you. We are always here to listen and talk things through and we place a particular emphasis on emotional wellbeing, becoming resilient and developing independence. We are all in this together Year 5! I would also like to reassure you that, as a team, we will do everything we can to 'close any gaps' in your learning that may have occurred due to school closing early.
On our class learning page, which can be accessed via the school website, you will find a video of your new classroom along with some transition work packs that I would like you to complete over the summer holidays. As you can see from the video, our classroom looks a bit empty but it will soon be filled with all of the work that we are going to be doing.
If you think of any questions or you have any concerns or worries about moving to Year 5, please email the school office and I will either call you or email back.
See you in September.
Mrs. Gould and Mrs Grattan
