Autumn Term

 Hello Sunshine!

2H have had a wonderful first week in year 2. They have enjoyed the sunshine and the playtimes on the school field. They have loved seeing all their friends after a long summer and telling them about all the exciting things they have been doing.
What a great start to a new academic year!

 Maths
LO: To flexibly partition 2 digit numbers.

The children really enjoyed working practically and helped each other find lots of different ways to partition numbers. They worked so hard and were really excited about sharing their answers.
English
LO: To use a question mark.

Today we have been acting like we are Flat Stanley from our book. The children thought of some questions they would love to ask Flat Stanley and took it in turns on their tables pretending to be him and answer them.
Then we had a 'hot seat' and a few children got to sit at the front of the class and act like Flat Stanley whilst we asked them all our questions. They really got into character and even put on different voices for him!

Everyone really enjoyed this and thought of some really interesting questions and answers. Well done 2H :)
Maths
LO: To estimate numbers on a number line.

The children had lots of fun in maths today! We were estimating numbers on a number line, so the children helped me make the number line at the front of the class and we were counting how many hops a person would have to take to get to the nearest ten.
Then we challenged them to estimate a number between two tens (e.g 30 and 40) and write it on their whiteboards.

They were really excited about thinking of the different numbers and comparing these with their friends. Well done for working so hard!
 English
LO: To form a sentence accurately.

In English this week we have been looking at writing a diary entry. To prepare for this we have been learning about different sentence types (e.g question, statement, command and exclamation). We've been using lots of our energy and running around to guess the sentence type. The children found this really fun and engaging and learnt the different sentence types really quickly.

Our trip to Saltaire!

We had a lovely time exploring Saltaire and learning all about Titus Salt and the village he created. On our walk around Saltaire we stopped at different places so the children could sketch the buildings and find the hidden 'TS' on each one.

Maria dressed up as Mrs Dooley and put on a show for us about what it would have been like in the 1800s. She told us about the village, all Titus Salt's workers, what their jobs would have been like and even everything he recycled in his village. The children loved this and took on the different roles that were given to them!

 Maths
LO: To add 2 - two digit numbers (across 10).
Today the children were adding 2 digit numbers that went across 10. They really enjoyed working with their partners and using the base 10 to work out the answers. I could hear lots of children discussing each step as they did it, which is amazing! Well done 2H!

 English
LO: To compare two characters from the story.
Today the children were working together to compare Clara and the Nutcracker. They really enjoyed helping each other read the sentences and working out where they went on the venn diagram.

 Punjabi Roots
Punjabi Roots came into school today to teach the children about some musical instruments and bhangra dancing. The children had a lovely day and got to use lots of energy dancing.

 Christmas Party

Wow what a term! The children have worked so hard and we are very proud of them. We have had a lovely Nativity and now the children get to have some fun at the Christmas party. We played lots of games and had a boogie with our friends!
Merry Christmas.

Science - Living Things
LO: To make comparisons about human growth.

We have had some very special visitors in school today! We have had a 2 year old, a 4 year old and an 11 months old. We asked the children and their grown ups questions about what they could and couldn't do. We then compared what the children could do.
