Summer 2 Home Learning w/c: 15th June 2020

Hello 1W! I hope you are well and have enjoyed the sunshine this weekend. I have had a busy weekend and last night I had to have a go at cutting my two boys hair as it was getting very long!

I really do hope to see you all soon. I am looking forward to seeing some of the children who are returning to school tomorrow. :)

For those of you staying safe at home, I have popped the learning that we will be doing on here too.

Please send me photographs of your learning or anything that you get up to at home. :)

Handwriting
Handwriting is really important at Blakehill and I know we were working hard on practising forming our letters correctly before lockdown began. Don't worry if you haven't done any since being off but could I ask if you could start practising your handwriting on a weekly basis?

Below I have attached the letter families:
ENGLISH

This week in English I would like you to use the book 'The Singing Mermaid' by Julia Donaldson. Monday's activity asks you to write a character description about the mermaid. I have included an example of a character description of the Gruffalo. This will help you understand what sort of thing you should be including when writing your description of the mermaid.

Topic
This half term we would have been learning all about animals and their habitats. We would have had a trip to Rodley Nature Reserve and had a go at pond dipping!

Your task today is to look at different types of animals.
Do you know any groups of animals?
Have a think with your grown up.
Phonics
Have a go at reading these words and matching their picture to the correct word.
Use your phonics to help you.
Phonics- Split Digraph i_e

This week I would like you to focus on the split digraph i_e sound.

There are alternate spellings which have the i_e sound within words:
  • igh   (you will see this spelling in the middle of words e.g - light, night)
  • i      (This spelling will be within a word)
  • ie    (This spelling will be at the end of a word e.g lie, pie, tie)
  • y     (This spelling will be at the end of a word e.g butterfly)
  • i_e   (This spelling will be at the end of a word e.g time, lime, kite)

Before looking at the words - make a list of all words you can think of with the igh/ie/i-e/y/i sound in.
Can you sort them into the correct spellings?
