Spring Term

Due to Jack leaving us at Christmas, Layla has taken on the role of School Councillor for 1W. Good luck Layla!
We have been subtracting, initially using concrete resources and then moving on to record pictorially and crossing out to find what’s left. We have been writing out number sentences using the subtraction sign.
We are focusing on athletics. We began by travelling around the room in a variety of ways
We have loved exploring the globe and atlases whilst investigating our world!
We have been learning all about the United Kingdom.
Religious Education
We went on a trip to a Sikh Gurdwara to help us understand their beliefs and see their special place of worship. We also had time to handle artefacts and learn about the 5K’s.
We have been reading ‘Katie in London’ by James Mayhew. We took part in a freeze frame activity to help us understand the role of each character.
Whole Class Reading
We went on a hunt around school looking for the Saltire. We had to read the question, answer it in our group and then we checked the answer by scanning the QR code.
Parent Reading Session
Every Thursday morning we open our doors at 8.30am to allow parents to come
into school for reading and sharing books with their child.
Art with Mrs Marsden
Exploring colour, line, pattern and tone.
We have been busy working with numbers to 20.
We really enjoy working practically with concrete resources to help our knowledge and understanding before we move on to record pictorially and then in abstract form.
Bradford City Penalty Shoot Out
The rain didn’t stop us from having fun and raising money for such a good cause.
We have been learning split digraphs this term.
We play dice games to help us practise and apply the
sounds by segmenting and blending to read words.
in English we are reading the book ‘A Planet Full of Plastic’ by Neal Layton.
To help us understand the plight of our sea creatures we took part in a hot seating activity. We had to ask the animal what it was like living in the sea and if they like the rubbish in the sea.
We came up with some fantastic questions.
In art with Mrs Marsden we have been studying line and colour.
We are now looking at the work of Piet Mondrian and creating our own versions using collage materials.
in our first music lesson focusing on the piece ‘Round and Round’ we were listening carefully to the rhythm,
finding the pulse and learning the first verse.
