Welcome to RD
At Blakehill our two Reception classes work together as a unit. We have two classes and two class teachers. Alongside the class teachers we have three learning partners to help to support learning. In RD the class teacher is Miss Dickinson and she is supported by Mrs Lister and Mrs Head.
Children all have a reading diary and reading book which comes home in their book bag each day. We encourage children to read at home each night. When your child has read at home can you sign and date their diary and write a comment so that we know how they are finding their reading at home. When children have had their diary signed at home they receive a sticker in school which they can then put onto their reading sticker chart. When 35 stickers have been collected children will receive a certificate in assembly.
Some children in reception have books without words. This is because they have not yet developed enough confidence in identifying and blending phonemes and graphemes independently. A book without words is valuable to a child in their early stages of reading as it encourages them to use the pictures as clues and use speech to talk about their thoughts and opinions. As their confidence develops they will start to bring home books with words.
Learning log projects will start in the second part of the Autumn term.
Children will bring home a learning log every other Friday. The learning log is an opportunity for each child to learn at home with their parents or carers. They can have the freedom to display and show their learning in any way they like.
Every other week a new challenge will be set in the learning log. Please can learning logs be sent back to school every other Thursday to be marked and for the next challenge to be given.
PE takes place every Friday morning. Children are expected to be able to change into their shorts and T-shirt independently. Children will not need pumps or trainers as PE sessions take place inside. Children will be taught PE by a specialist PE teacher, Miss Dobson.
Every day we take part in a dough disco. Each child has a pot of dough. Children use the dough to exercise their fingers. We pull the dough, stretch it, smack it, roll it, poke it and squeeze it. All these actions help to strengthen children’s fingers and develop their motor skills. This helps when children are learning to hold and handle a pencil in order to write.
