Progression of Skills

Progression of Skills

Here at Blakehill Primary School, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work which sets out clearly the knowledge, skills and understanding - the key expectations - that all pupils should be secure in for each year group. We are currently using their updated scheme.

Below, you will be able to see the progression in skills built up over the year. These provide teachers with a 'road map' to follow but are then adapted to the needs of pupils in their particular class.

You will also be able to see the progression of skills built up over a block of work from Reception (our youngest pupils) to Year 6 (our oldest pupils), focusing on place value. We always begin the Autumn term exploring place value as it is central to a deep understanding of mathematics. By developing pupils' understanding of number this can then be applied to a wide variety of other mathematical blocks such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, statistics and so on.
