Home Learning 27.4.20
Hello to all our Year 4 children, parents and carers!
We are missing everyone and hope you are all well and staying safe. We have updated the home learning for Year 4 ready to start next week.
As we are missing everyone, we thought that it would be a lovely idea to share any completed work or activities that you have done during the week. This could be any set task, daily exercise, baking, cooking, gardening, art and craft projects or books you are reading and would recommend to others. The list is endless! If you could take a picture and attach it to an email to the school office or via the e-schools website, we will share them on our website. We may also add in some pictures of our own!
Communication is limited at the moment, however, if you would like to ask us a question or chat about any tasks that have been set, please email us through the school office or via the e-schools website and we will get back to you as soon as we can. E-schools would perhaps be easier as we can message you back directly and children can message us too.
Below, we have outlined the tasks we have set for this week. More detailed information can be found further down this page. It is important to note that in addition to these tasks, we do expect that all children read every day, practice TT Rockstars as often as possible and most importantly, have some fun! We recognise that most of these tasks involve the use of technology. This is because in regards to Purple Mash and TT Rockstars, we can track the work that children have completed. In addition to this, we have tried to set children exciting tasks such as El Dorado and to cover a range of curriculum areas. If this is causing an issue, please get in touch and we will try our best to put alternative provision in place.
Take care everyone. Don’t forget to send us your photos!
Miss Philip and Mr Hodges.
Week Outline
Maths
In school, we follow the White Rose Maths Small Steps. They have created videos, worksheets and answers relating to each objective. Following this will ensure that the children will not miss out on learning whilst at home. This week, the children will start to learn about decimals.
English / Reading
Each week we will work through a chapter of an online book on Purple Mash. There are daily activities to complete along with two additional grammar tasks to be completed during the week.
For additional reading and English tasks there is the below El Dorado work to complete as well as lots of other books and tasks to have a go at on Serial Mash.
Spelling
Continue to follow the spelling patterns that were provided on the first week. Children can practice these using different ways. For example: rainbow writing, fancy writing, pyramids, copying out three times, bubble writing, silly sentences and many more. On the website, are the Year 3/4 spellings that are set for children to know by the end of Year 4. These can also be practised using the above methods.
Optional Tasks
- English/Media
Over the next seven weeks, #LitFilmFestClassrooms will be running scheduled English lessons. These will be released daily at 10:30am, but can be watched and used at any point after that. The adventure will be based on the downloadable book El Dorado. Further information can be found on the PDF below.
- DT
As our next topic was the Romans, we would like you to use materials from your home to research and create a models of different aspects of Roman life. There will be a new task each week. Take pictures of your work and send them to the school email address, followed by 4P or 4H by Friday and we’ll put them on Twitter and our class pages.
- Science
We have included a link to follow which gives daily, hands on science activities which can be attempted at home.
- Computing
We have included a link to the Innovation Centre’s Youtube Channel. They are producing daily tasks which can be completed at home often using technology.

This week we are looking at chapter 2 of The Shifter.
Monday - read the chapter and identify any unfamiliar words. Can you work out what they mean using the sentence? Can you change some of the words for other synonyms?
Tuesday - read again and complete the quiz either online or in your workbooks.
Wednesday - Use the text to answer the open ended questions and sequence task.
Thursday - complete the SPaG task for chapter 2
Friday - writing piece. This can be done online or in their books.
There are also 3 grammar and 2 spelling tasks which can be completed online throughout the week at any point.
For further English work, they can choose a new text on Serial Mash and complete a chapter and the tasks a day or have a go at the El Dorado lessons.
Computing - this week we have set on Purple Mash the task to make a poster to explain to younger children why it is important to have a strong password. Again, this can be online or on paper. I would love to share finished pieces on the website !
