I would like you to write a story or descriptive piece of writing based on the picture below. Be as creative as you can! Send them to me via school logins or email the office. Can't wait to read them!
Forces are often referred to as pushes and pulls.
Forces affect the movement or shape of an object. They can make an object start to move, stop moving, move faster or move more slowly. They could also make an object change its shape or cause a moving object to change direction.
This week we are going to continue looking at forces.
Water resistance is a type of force that uses friction to slow things down that are moving through water. It is often called drag.

This week we would like to focus on the following reading areas:
2A (give / explain the meaning of words in context)
2B (retrieve and record information / identify key details from fiction and non-fiction)
2D (make inferences from the text / explain and justify inferences with evidence from the text)
2E (predict what might happen from details stated and implied)
Our text focus for this week is Cogheart by Peter Bunzl.
Task 1: watch the trailer for Cogheart and answer the 2D and 2E questions about this. You may want to watch the trailer a few times and may find it useful to pause the clip so that you a focus on the screen for each of the questions.
Task 2: Read the opening of the prologue from Cogheart. Think about what you see in your imagination while you read this opening. Write a description of everything you see. What do the characters look like? What is there mood? Their facial expression? Think about the setting, the weather, the season, the time of day.
Task 3: Continue to read the prologue from Cogheart. Using the meaning break down check list look at the words included and find these in the text. Read the sentence before and the sentence after to read the word in the context then think about what you know about this word. Record what you think the meaning of each word is then find the definitions for each word in a dictionary – How close were you to the meaning?
Task 4: Re-read the prologue for Cogheart and answer the 2A (give / explain the meaning of words in context), 2B (retrieve and record information / identify key details from fiction and non-fiction) and 2D (make inferences from the text / explain and justify inferences with evidence from the text) questions.
Throughout lockdown we have tried to link GPS into the different English units included in your home learning. From this week on wards we are going to be focusing solely on GPS so that we are able to ensure there are no gaps in your knowledge ahead of moving into Year 6.
