Curriculum Carousel

Curriculum Carousel

At Blakehill, the children are at the heart of everything we think and do.

As a school we make concerted efforts to listen to our children to find out about their interests and needs. We use this to shape and provide a curriculum to suit our children.

In a 2019 pupil survey, our pupils said" we would like to 'do more computing, Art and DT." This was in addition to the timetabled lessons. Children also wanted to be involved in project based learning activities...our curriculum carousel was created!

Every Friday, pupils in KS2 participate in a  ‘Curriculum Carousel’ which aims to provide additional curriculum enrichment opportunities, further deepening our pupils’ knowledge and skills in the foundation subjects.

These carefully planned project based opportunities promote active and engaging learning activities. They inspire our pupils to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects that they are studying and allows them to practise and develop their skills by working for  longer periods of time.

These sessions are devoted to the teaching and learning of subjects that include: Computing, Art, design technology, music, science and PHSCE and have proven to be a huge success with staff and pupils. Parent and pupil feedback has been highly positive and reflect

“You can tell that our teachers work really hard to make sure that our learning is fun and interesting.” (Ethan Year 6)

100% of our parents agree with the statement: “Blakehill provide a wide range of curriculum opportunities for our children to engage in.” (Spring Term 2019)
