Autumn Term

Star writer - Well done to Charlie for writing an amazing persuasive  letter to Jesse Owens.

In English today we were looking at the different sentence types. The children had to sort sentences into the 4 different groups. We then wrote our own paragraphs using all 4 sentence types and various sentence starters.
In maths we have been looking at subtracting a 4-digit number by a 4-digit number with exchanges. We then played a subtraction football game to see who could score the most goals.
Science - We worked together to record using a classification key.
Thank you and well done to those Children who have completed their optional homework which was on WW2. Lots of children have linked their project to their relatives which has engaged them and they want to know more.
PE - in PE today we learnt how to pass in hockey using a push pass. It is important to think about the weight of our pass.
Well done to our star writer. Keep up the good work.
Today in DT we have started our new unit on pop up books. We had a look through lots of books to see what features we could see. We then compared books to see if they all had the same features.

In Science this afternoon we have set up an experiment to see what living things live in our school environment. We put yogurt pot traps in 2 different locations, with a slice if apple in them. Next week we will be going back out to see what living things we have managed to find in our school environment.
We collected our bug traps to see what living things were in out local environment. The children then compared what we found from 2 different locations. We then went back inside and created classification keys for mini-beats, birds and plants.
In DT we have continued our learning journey by creating the different types of pop ups which we are going to include in or final project. All the children managed to independently create the 6 different types of pop ups.
We started our WWII topic by finding the different countries that were involved in WWII on a map. The children then used this information to try and predict where they thought WWII was though, we had some accurate predictions. Next time in History we will be looking at Neville Chamberlains speech to the nation where he told Britain that they were at war with Germany.
