Blakehill Primary School’s Board of Governors is seeking one School Governor preferably with experience in Primary School Education, Buildings/Premises, Finance, HR and links with local industry. However, if you don't have the skills or experience but are willing to get involved, attend training events and develop yourself then we'd love to hear from you.
The Governing Body brings a broad range of substantial expertise to Blakehill Primary School and our primary aim is to promote high standards of educational achievement in the school.
The role of the Governing Body is to:
- ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- support the Executive Head and Head of School, but hold them to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
- oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.
In addition, all of the governors have the opportunity to take a role with specific responsibilities and/or as part of a committee.
The Governing Body already has a highly skilled and experienced group of people who recently achieved Governor Mark, an independent inspection and quality accreditation for our governance.
Having a full team of governors strengthen our Governing Body and help us to maintain our high standards of governance.
At Blakehill Primary School, the Governing Body meets every half-term on a convenient weekday evening at 6pm until 7.30pm. There are also committee meetings, business meetings, school visits, training, background reading and other requirements expected of governors. None of these activities are ‘low level’ or mundane. The school governors make a substantial and valuable contribution to our school and community.
The experience obtained in governance can also contribute to the improvement and development of governor's professional skills.
Professional skills from the workplace are greatly valued on a school Governing Body. Being a Governor is can be challenging and can be time consuming, but it is fulfilling and enjoyable. Overseeing the conduct of a school so that its pupils can gain maximum benefit is very rewarding work.
If you are interested in becoming a governor, please contact the Chair of Governors, Philip Cavalier-Lumley on Tel: 07833 454 253 or by Email: phil.cavalier-lumley@blakehillprimary.co.uk and ask for a New Governor Pack, which will include more details of the role, a Code of Conduct and a Declaration of Eligibility to Serve.
Candidates will also be required to complete a skills matrix to ensure that the applicant has ‘the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school’ and/or identify training opportunities. A short personal statement of no more than 300 words would also need to be submitted by the candidate indicating their suitability for the role. Candidates are welcome to meet with the Chair of the Governing Body for an informal discussion.
All Governors are required to successfully undergo an enhanced DBS check.
