Swimming at Blakehill Primary School
Pupils at Blakehill Primary School learn to swim in Year 4. All of the children are provided with specialist small group teaching to help them reach the nationally expected level of 25 meters. Children are taught a number of different strokes and given opportunities to become proficient in these strokes throughout their time in Year 4. 
 
Swimming attainment of Year 4 & 6 pupils 2022-2023
This year, Year 6 attended swimming on an intense booster programme.
Of the children in Year 6 during the year 2022-2023:
80% of children are able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters.
54% of children are able to use a range of strokes efficiently. 
54% of children are able to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
 
Of the children in Year 4 during the year 2022-2023:
66% of children are able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of least 25 meters.
61% of children are able to use a range of strokes efficiently.
27% of children are able to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. 
 
Swimming attainment of Year 6 pupils 2021-2022
Due to school closures ( COVID-19) in 2020 and 2021 and the restrictions imposed on leisure facilities, our current year 6 pupils were unable to participate in their usual swimming allocation. An intense booster programme is scheduled for all Year 6 pupils in the 2022/23 year group which will provide these pupils with opportunities to receive some allocation.

92% of children are able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of least 25 metres.  
92% of children are able to use a range of strokes efficiently. 
69% of children are able to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

Of the children in Year 6 during the year 2019-2020:
89% of children are able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of least 25 metres.  
89% of children are able to use a range of strokes efficiently. 
62% of children are able to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

90% of children are able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of least 25 metres.  
90% of children are able to use a range of strokes efficiently. 
65% of children are able to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

91% of children are able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of least 25 metres.  
91% of children are able to use a range of strokes efficiently. 
67% of children are able to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
